Re: Are You Real Kenyans From: William Odhiambo Somehow you have a point my friend. The likes of my namesake Odhiambo Oketch and Dr. Munywoki have no leadership in them. They are the Felicien Kabugas of our generation. This, I state this for the following reasons: 1. If you have an opinion about Uhuru, or Moi or Kibaki....that opinion does not automatically make them evil...at least in everyones eyes. Otherwise if you believe it does, you are a terrorist spreading terror on the web, only using a very good platform (madaraka kenya) the youth should use to exchange ideas that matter. 2. Secondly, I do agree with you that some kikuyu leaders are worthless and are a big shame to the society. Someone like Uhuru didnt have the balls to tell his constituents that he cannot support evil, they rather vote him out. For once, I agree with JJ kmotho; Uhuru is a kihii! Another one, Michuki is a tribalist from birth. He thinks the government is a private affair to be run by business partners. But this definitely does not mean that those great Kenyans that share ancestral names with this kind are all evil. It is a fallacy that should not have been even conceived in this age and time. We are smarter than the Rwandans I like to believe, dont prove me wrong. Men like Githongo are Kikuyus by birth and upbringing, and are Kenyans by identity. But he stood to the facts and said no, when it was DANGEROUS TO SAY SO! Men like him, in any generation, time , age and government should be honored with immortality. Hon Joe Nyaga is very kikuyu, yet he has decided to be a leader...nothing else. Surely we cannot crucify him on the alter of stereotype. Others in politics are Mugambi Imanyara, Ann Njogu, Wangui Mbatia, Maina Kiai etc. Women like Wangari Maathai have time and again made the country proud by her stand on the environment (inspite of her stand in this election) and is very Kikuyu in her blood and yes, her accent! Young men like Simon Waweru the athlete, make this country proud. They have never eaten a single cent from Kibaki, or cronies. They just know they are Kenyans and they shine for Kenya. They must be honored and the kind of readings i sometimes get here do not honor them. 3. It is not to say that if you not Kikuyu you are any good. We experimented this in SONU for years. whether kikuyu or jaluo, or kisii or Meru or kalenjin; politicians are the same yesterday, today and forever more in style, drive, interests and sometimes even words. I agree that we should change the government, I will not be any surprised however to see an ODM government behaving like moi's after 8 years (they may be good in the first 5!). And yes the likes of Ntimama, Oliotiptip and Barngetuny (not Ruto, should u need info on this let me know) led alot of killings in the clashes of the 90s. Because they are in ODM does not make them holy. We need their votes for now, and after that, the guilty must be punished. This brethren does not make me any less an ODM supporter, it only makes me a kenyan. Get serious and do not mislead Kenyans. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
