"Catholic Episcopal Conference described Majimbo governance as "disastrous" Are they listening to OD

A story is told of a frog who was once asked what the extent of the world was. The answer was obvious because for the frog the whole world was the pond he has lived in since the day he came to life. I am also told of some human beings that are so unexposed that they probably believe they are the only human beings on the planet leave alone believing that they are the superior eucaryotes. To further this argument, the luos once believed the lake and the fish only belonged to them while the massais believed that anyone who owned the cows must have stolen theirs. The moral of the story is that once a human being is used to a line of story or away of life they tend to be certisfied and eventually justify that life irrespective of how mediocre, behind or detrimental it is.

The majimbo dabate has taken route. I for once warned that unless properly propagated or explained the word "Majimboism" would take the old  back to their memories irrespective of how wrong their understanding of the word was and is now. What is the kikuyu, luo, masai, kamba or kalenjin word for majimboism? I for one is a genuine luo but I do not have a language for this word. The reason being that something that is not a common phenomenon of your culture cannot have a perfect term coined for it. It is therefore very clear that majimbo as a term was coined to explain a western type of government which in short is called federalism or devolution of power. The majimbo term incepted with all the negativity negated towards it by the Kanu government in the 1960s, to many who grew up then still remain balconization and partition of the country into tribal districts as the then perception was. Even if radical modification is made to the ideology, some are still stuck in the small pond of the 1960s.

I therefore believe that Majimbo is a wrong translation for federalism or devolution of power as in federalism there is no tribalism that seem to complicate the term majimboism. It is therefore a good idea to stick to a term whose meaning is clear even if it is foreign to our ears because as long as it reaps good results we will eventually adopt it and call it something like fedarali or kugawanya uchumi.

If majimboism is truely federalism/devolution then the Kenyan public must be happy that some people are atleast willing to give it a chance. The reason being that United States, the richest country in the world, a country where every kenyan is trying so hard to migrate to have been very successful using this type of government. Basically in their own terms federalism cuts down on the size of government and ensures quick and efficient delivery of services at the same time making sure that the unfortunate among us is not left alone writhing in pain while others go wallowing in wealth. Indeed the system has ensured delivery of good services to majority of United States citizens and even to some unfortunate Kenyans.

As many of us may be aware, Kenya has not self generated much wealth, neither is Kenya self sufficient. To prove this, just cut the foreign aid for five months. Everything will come tumbling. This aid must be paid back evetually. Everyone in Kenya, poor or rich pay this money each day. However, the experience is that this money comes through Nairobi and dissappeared in Nairobi and other parts of Kenya where the powers to be come from. This is the problem. Everyone is paying for the money that is in the bank account of a few.

Every problem must be solved at one time or another. ODM has come up with a suggested solution and has attempted to expalin it as best as they can. They have made some modifications to the ideology but many are stuck in the majimbo of the 1960s. They are stating that federalism is the answer because it will enable this money that we will all pay for reach everyone so that we can make our lives better and become self reliant.

I thought the catholics leaders including Ndigi, Njue and others could be proud of this. Besides they are the very same people who have been crying over lack of equal distribution of resources. The catholic Bishops know that we have a problem. If they believe fedaralism is not the answer then why dont they suggest one. Why dont they be like Jesus. At least Jesus provided or suggested a solution for each problem. He healed the sick and fed the hungry. People are hungry in Kenya because of corruption, nepotism and tribalism, why cant the Catholic leaders suggest a solution for this.  The Catholic priests are telling us "kaeni tu vile mlivyo". Just like Moi told us for 24 years. They are saying we are okay when we are bleeeding, they are telling us we are the most successful superior race while some of us are dieing of hunger. These priests are like the frog. They have hidden their heads in the sand when it comes to changes. They contented, are totally stuck in the past way of life and are not interested in the welfare of their congregation. I read tribalism. I see that the priests do not necessarily hate the message, they hate the vessel who delivered the message. For those who are christlike. This is very disheartening. Even though the term Majimboism have a bad reminder, proper modifications may solve Kenyan problems. Lets give it a shot.
