Re: What Kind of Government would Raila form? From: Charles Nkuraya Date: Thu, 25 Oct 2007 15:32:37 -0700 (PDT) It is now apparent that Majimbo is a terrible, unwise and a dangerous idea think about it this way in most places where there is Majimbo the size of Kenya would be a Jimbo. Kenya is the same size as Texas so Kenya is too small to be divided. The way forward is to make Kenya Jimbo la East Africa, that the wise and progressive way. Making Kenya a Jimbo is the retrogressive and unwise way forward. Two bodies spoke today about Majimbo, the Catholic Church and the World Bank. First of all which of the these two bodies would you listen to? The church which has been with us through thick and thin or the Bank which has subjected third world countries to abject poverty through draconian measures like Structural Adjustment Programs in order to control them? The church led by Cardinal-designate Njue said Majimbo would divind the country and asked Kenyan to reject Majimbo. After reading a pastoral letter signed by 25 Catholic bishops, Cardinal-designate John Njue said majimboism (federalism) would be disastrous for Kenya. Now if there is any third world leader or an aspiring third world leader who does not see Word Bank as a danger to economic and political development is ignorant and uninformed. Most of third world countries had followed the World Bank and IMF religiously in the 80s and 90s and ended having economic disasters because the these institutions were not created to help but to control third world countries with a colonial yolk. Dangling few dollars here and there and saying “come and get it” only for the bait to be pulled a little higher and then they say again “come and get it” and the game continue that way with goal post being shifted whenever a score is about to be made. I remember in the early 90s the Breton Wood institutions used to claim we would fund Africa only if Africa embraces democracy and multi party rule. Zambia was among the first African countries to embrace the multiparty rule and I thought Zambia would be fully funded, wapi there was not even an attempt by this institutions to show they keep their words. When Kenya held a successful multi party election in 2002 I thought the Breton Wood Institutions will have nothing to say with such an open free and fair election there was not a single dispute about the election and I thought Kenya will be fully funded, wapi? The Institutions claimed “there is a lot of noise in the country “; believe it or not and therefore the funding will be suspended until the country is quiet as if a country is a classroom. Even the policy makers at Breton Wood Institutions have no shame “there is too much noise in the country” as if the country is full of school boys and school girls to keep quiet so that they can get candy. Anyway when the government increased it revenues the institutions realized they will become irrelevant the trickling of money here and there started. That why I urge fellow Kenyans to vote wisely if they want to escape from humiliation of constant begging from these heartless and cruel institutions. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
