Heretical Thoughts on Kenyan Politics - Prof. Joel Ngugi Heretical Thoughts on Kenyan Politics , Joel Ngugi, sent by Aseto Asiyo

I had read the artcile and it passes, in my view, as one of the best and objective pieces analysing the current political discourse. Ngugi shows that it is possible to sell a candidate without resulting into deep subjective and tribal vitriol. He therefore deviates from some journalists in both Standarda and Nation who use their blood, and not mind, to spread tribalism. Although i am an Uhuru man, i agree with Prof. Ngugi on the possible importance of Raila Presidency, specifically on the possibility of deepened economic reforms, social democracy , devolved government , a post-tribal political era and fighting corruption "without trying to wake up the sleeping dogs". I can hypothesise that the sons and and daughters of Mumbi, using their reknown entrepreneur skills and economic strength might actually end up benefiting more from economic reforms under Raila's presidency than under Kenyatta and Kibaki. This will largely be boosted by a more devolved economy with potential to lower the Gini index, thus giving more people money to spend. Considering that my brothers and sisters from the mountains are spread all over the country with established businesses, then they will definately be beneficiaries of a Raila Presidency. In South Africa, the whites are asking themselves why they wasted too much time and resources fighting the blacks as they are benefiting more in the post-1994 political dispensation. They blame themselves that "if only they knew that the black leadership was going to expand the economic spending powers of the blacks and open up economic opportunities, they would have ended apartheid decades ago". Kenyans, especialy the descendants of Mau Mau, should therefore not worry if Raila wins. After all and sometimes, River Chania drys up significantly during the draught seasons and it can be supplimented and reinforced by River Nile. The converse is also true TK Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
