Federalism good for Kenya..

Federalism or majimbo seems to be the ultimate governance system for Kenya. Like multi-party-ism, federalism would open avenues for democracy and good governance. The current centralized governance being perpetuated by few elite and tribal politicians and businessperson has for long time been used to swindle fellow countrymen of monies from other parts of the nation for selfish gain.

Majority who are poor are being denied an opportunity to participate and contribute to national development. Certainly, majimboism would give a chance to each and every Kenyan to demonstrate and determine varied development initiatives through participation of all including the majority poor.

Those terming the system as tribal are only expressing selfish guilt that they have for selfishly capitalizing on national resources for individual and tribal gain.

These rich moguls only wish to maintain the status quo to continue to make Kenyans become desperate and later on seek sectarian handouts.

The government has been dishing out electoral goodies in form of districts, title deeds, loans and resuscitating failed projects and others at this electioneering period in order to win the hearts of the majority poor. Government has taken advantage of the desperation of Kenyans to use such a tactic to solicit for votes.

On the other hand, centralized governance in Kenya has contributed to the increase in the number of slum settlements in urban areas.

Majority are denied employment and resources forcing them to migrate to an urban city like Nairobi to seek employment. Sad still employers take advantage of their desperate states to continue to infringe on their livelihoods. Such immigrants are not provided with decent housing, water, medical care, among others yet the same work very hard to put bread on table.

More so man ladies are sexually abused and others become prostitutes due to the hard living conditions. Brothels operated by the rich have become a haven for making money at the expense of the victims who are poor and lack options and opportunities in life. This has exacerbated the speedy spread of HIV/AIDS as many choose to sleep around due to the unbalanced economic classes that the centralized government has created.

Thus majimboism would help reverse this demoralizing trend by availing resources equitably to all regions of the nation. This move would encourage many to leave Nairobi for up country towns that have smaller business centers as a way of easing congestion of rural-urban immigrants of the capital city.

All Kenyans of goodwill have an opportunity to make other fellow citizens live equitably and with dignity for future development and economic prosperity.
