Re: Jakom and ODM nominations I join those calling for free and fair ODM nominations. It is laughable for some people to assume that simply shouting their voices hoarse and hanging onto coat-tails qualifies them as front-line soldiers in the fight for 'Orange Revolution'. It is such unacceptable criteria and misconception that has led to the arm-twisting of locals into voting in selfish leaders who have no time for grassroots issues. The fight for a better Kenya has involved many consistent and dedicated individuals some through public displays and others through much more needed resources that may otherwise be less visible. The judgment of such is in the hands of the people and not 'people who started making noise yesterday'. I also wish to state that I read a lot of mischief when ODM leadership took their campaign to Kisumu Rural when we know too well that this is a safe area. Does it make sense for ODM leadership to waste resources organizing a rally in Kisumu Rural? Word on the ground is that a hitherto overrated incumbent is in deep trouble and may, in a fair nomination, not make it. Watch this space. The argument being put forth by panicking candidates, especially those holding ODM National offices, is that they have been busy handling party matters and deserve direct nomination as they had no time to campaign in the grassroots. This is cheap for it must not be forgotten that it is the very people who trooped into these leadership positions hoping they would face their opponents from and advantaged position. Nominations must be left in the hands of locals. They, grassroots, must be trusted with making the right choices for it is them who know leaders who take action and not mere preaching of philosophies. ODM must promise the membership that democracy will take root for even as we face a bigger fight, the locals have been PATIENT in pursuit of internal fairness and this must not be misinterpreted or abused. - Otieno Agwanda.
