Re: ODM Nomination Fiasco --- Joash Bwomandi wrote: It rather pathetic and a pity too that ODM a party viewed as agent can do what KANU had been doing for so many years. It was more that the famous 1988 mlolongo which was marred by rigging. The Kenyan general election is almost becoming free and fair but the problem remains in party nominations. In the 10th parliament we want one MP to bring a motion to streamline nominations. It should be made to law that a political party has to offer free and fair nomination or else its disqualified as a party. Clear measures or criteria of evaluation of what constitutes a free and fair nominations should be spelt out and ECK given powers to monitor and evaluate any party nomination. In the event that ECK does not give a pass, the nomination should be nullfied and a new one ordered. That is the only time will bring sanity and accountability in party nominations. Party leaders make fortunes out of aspirants and do nothing. With the financial muscle ODM was accorded by the largesse of many political aspirants, they could have manned the most fair nomination ever in the history of Kenya. They had the resources to print voting materials, hire competent personell and monitors to conduct the exercise. The same applied to the other parties but the reason I chastise ODM is because who ever is given much, much is expected. I am wondering what change they are going to bring if they did not prove in a simple exercise. For many years I was a critique of people who defect by I came to realize that many are pushed to the wall till they can't bear it any more. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
