Raila asks defectors for support

ODM presidential candidate, Mr Raila Odinga, acknowledges cheers from party supporters as he arrives at the Gusii Stadium for a campaign rally, Thursday.

ODM presidential candidate ,  Mr Raila Odinga, has welcomed parliamentary candidates who sought alternative parties after losing in the nominations, saying he needs their support. He said all parliamentary aspirants in ODM friendly parties remained his friends despite fielding candidates against the party and should not be viewed as enemies.

"I know our party nominations caused a lot of bitterness that forced our ardent supporters to seek alternative tickets, but I know they still support my candidature and we should not treat them as enemies," he said.
He added: "They all mean well to my candidature and we should bear in mind that we have a common enemy in the name of President Kibaki and PNU."
Raila said he would bank his hopes on all Kenyans, including those in other political parties .

"Support your parties, but give me the Presidential votes," he requested.
Rail spoke in Nyaribari-Chache constituency and repeated the same as the Gusii Stadium.

As if to endorse his recognition of those who defected from ODM, Raila introduced about 20 parliamentary candidates from other parties who had attended his campaign. His remarks are likely to deal a final blow to the three-piece voting system as many voters are likely to choose civic and Parliamentary candidates on other parties, but support him for the Presidency.

He warned the ECK and the PNU against a "determination by the PNU party to win the elections ".

He said he and his supporters would not accept a defeat in a rigged poll, adding that Kenyans would rise against any attempt to manipulate poll results.

"I know PNU has sensed defeat and they have now indulged on a campaign to print fake ballot papers, which they will use to rig the elections. But we will stop them no matter what it takes," he said.

Raila said although the ECK had agreed to make use of the black book, it had not come clean about the scheme to rig the polls.
