A Wake-up Call Readers, that is the tragedy of having a large-scale farm, or factory amidst a populous peasantry. That the farm drains into River Yala and Lake Victoria only magnifies the tragedy. The water and fish in the lake will be conterminated with pesticides, and algal blooms will thrive due to phosphatic enrichment; conterminated fish will blossom then die due to increased BOD (bio-oxygen demand). Having a dead lake is not an unreasonable projection. The situation will be worse than what Anyuongi has done to fishing and navigation. But who can offer regulatory caution when we live politics everyday? JR Alila. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
