Re: The presidency!!!! J. Makwach Ochungo wrote: For both admirers and detractors, President Kibaki was on the way to retaining the presidency come the forthcoming general elections. Until yesterday. With a violent slap of hand on the face of an MC at state celebrations in State House, Lucy imprinted the ominous warning to the president, "Mene Mene Tekel!" To the feverishly religious Kenyans, the meaning of that cryptograph cannot be lost; president Kibaki's leadership of the country has been weighed on the scales of resolve and strength of character and has been found wanting. Therefore, come the end of the year, the leadership is going to be passed on to someone else. What could have prodded Lucy into such an uncontrollable fit of temper and violence as to embarrass Kenyans in the eyes of the world a third time, though this time round more poignantly, and jeopardize her husband's presidency (and with that her position as First Lady) in the process? and how does this relate to President Kibaki's leadership? The answer is co-wife jealousy. The MC curiously referred to Lucy as Lucy Wambui.... Lucy's middle name is not Wambui; it is Muthoni. Wambui is the president's second wife, the woman Lucy has tried to distance from the president (at least, publicly, given the fact that the same woman is accorded state security). Why, then, did the MC, a civil servant in Kibaki's administration, conjoin the names of the president's wives into a single name? That is troublesome. That act in itself raises the possibility that the MC deliberately conjoined the names in order to embarrass the First Family at a sensitively inopportune moment. His was a temptation, an evil one at that, but it hit Lucy at her Achilles' heel and she fell - - a fall that exposed the president's weakness of character -- the very reason why the hitherto anti-Luo Charles Njonjo traveled to Luoland to endorse Raila Odinga for president, and one that must turn this administration officer, a Mr. Musyimi, into a national celebrity whose face bears the imprint of external physical pain and internal sense of victory and achievement. This is not the first time Lucy has reacted with embarrassing emotional abandon at the mention of her co-wife's name, Wambui. The first time was when, at another state function, Vice President Moody Awuor referred to her as "Second Lady". Lucy lost her control and became inconsolable, irredeemably ruining the tranquility of that evening. From that moment, she worked around the clock to remove civil servants whom she suspected of being sympathetic to Ms Wambui or critical of Lucy. Several were banned from State House by the First Lady. In fact, Lucy ordered several of them to tender in their resignations lest they be fired. The president looked and turned out to be impotent in that matter. The second time was when Lucy assailed reporters in the Nation newsroom. Lucy was supposed to be in State House at that late hour. Speculation has it that she could not stay there because her husband was visiting with Wambui. All this reflects poorly on a man who cannot govern his own household but wants to govern the country. And Lucy's overbearing behavior has come at an awkward moment for the president. How is he going to respond to reporters and his critics? President Kenyatta had more than one wife but Kenyans knew only Mama Ngina who showed respect for the old man. President Moi acted with resolve when his wife behaved in a manner that threatened his political career. But when it came to President Kibaki, he has not shown strength of character. His failure to rein in his violent wife from interfering in matters of state has hurt him politically. Lucy has jeopardized the First Family's social position and the chances of those running on PNU tickets. This is an outcome many will hate that woman for. /jumo ------------------------------ Lucy Kimani wrote: He he LOL and here I was thinking that only women are full of drama!!!! ------------------------------ Mr Ochungo, Kibaki was not on track to a second term. He has been trailing Raila in 6 out of 8 provinces for close to the last 4 months. If you are trailing in 6 provinces, how can you be on track to winning? Or someone leading in 1 and a half a province would be declared the winner? He deserves a rest as he has been advised by that PNU advert on page 16 of todays Daily nation; lets reason together. He deserves to do just that with his grand children, at home; Othaya Nyeri. Odhiambo T Oketch Komarock Nairobi Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
