Ndolo arrested when he caught rigging red handed in Nairobi forwarded by Oyuga. Ndolo arrested for assaulting polling officials Written By:KBC Reporters , Posted: Fri, Dec 28, 2007 Former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo and an aspirant for Sirisia Constituency were Friday arrested after causing chaos during the vote counting exercise. It is alleged that Ndolo assaulted election officials at the Railway Training School in Makadara constituency, pulling down ballot boxes and a table used by the returning officer. Ndolo was protesting the inclusion of four ballot boxes that he claimed had been tampered with and which had been brought into the counting hall unaccompanied by polling agents. Meanwhile controversy continued to mar vote counting in Nairobi's seven constituencies disrupting the exercise. By 6pm Friday only Langata constituency had announced its results. Raila Odinga of ODM garnered 59 416 votes, defeating Stanley Livondo of PNU who had 23 919 votes. In Starahe constituency the ODM candidate Margaret Wanjiru cried foul citing electoral malpractices by her rival Maina Kamanda of PNU. In Kamukunji, Dagorreti and Kasarani constituencies the exercise was marred by heated arguments after a section of the candidates disputed the results. In Sirisia the ODM aspirant John Welukhe Koyi tore ballot papers in anger at the inclusion of ballots from Mahonge polling station which he had disputed citing irregularities which he blamed on his rival Moses Wetangula. Vote counting was halted indefinitely in the constituency. Elsewhere 15 people were seriously injured following a fight between ODM and Safina party supporters in Rhamo town. Speaking to the press El-walk District Commissioner, Michael Tialel said 25 people have been arrested in connection with the incident. He said security personnel have been sent to the area to restore peace. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
