Press Release- Kenya elections 2007 On behalf of Christian Democratic Movement in Kenya and Diaspora, I wish to note with great dismay the wanton rigging of the Kenyan General election 2007 by the power hungry rich ruling class of Kenyan politics. We are particularly shocked by the way, the Kenyan police through express instruction of the Minister of Internal security and Internal affairs Mr. John Michuki is curtailing the citizens right to peacefull demontration by sending the Military Police on the streets. The military police has taken control in major cities and towns of Kenya seen to have voted for Orange Democratic Movement. The Millitary police have also been despatched to Kibera slums in Nairobi to intimidate the voters there for demonstrating their democartic rights of choosing their leader of choice. As I author this press release, the police are already tear-gassing the poor, homeless, women and children in Kibera slums and other parts of the country. This is unaccepatble, Kibera is a creation of the past and present governments of the rich. The country is in high levels of anxiety. The vote cooking which started yesterday night is now being announced unabated and seem not to be adding up. So far people are being arrested in the slums(which is a creation of bad governance) taken to detention centres and tortured. This will bring unnecessary chao This is something that we do not want to continue, we are for peace and tranquilty in the country and condem those using this election as a channel for waging ethnic cleansing in the country. These state of affairs can not be allowed in the 21st century. This outright cheat can not be allowed to proceed and Kenyans from six provinces out of eight are already demonstrating against this move As you may be aware there have been many massacres taking place in Kenya under the pretence of restoring security and order. Many innocent people have been killed especially those from the opposition strongholds just because they are not ready to be cowed into accepting everything the government says. We foresee the repeation of the killings and general harassment of opposition suppoters in the next comming days. In this vein, we would like to take this opportunity to ask the Kibaki government to accept defeat and hand over the power peacefully to Mr. Raila Odinga. This is the only way to avert bloodshed in Kenya. Failure to do this will result in wanton destruction of property and killing of the innocent people. The country is at stake and we ask the international community to move with great speed and dennounce the killing of innocent poor people in Kibera slums and other towns in the name of restoring peace and order. We urge the international community to put pressure on people doctoring the choice of the Kenyan people. William ODuor EU.
