WHERE IS KIBAKI'S INTELECTUALISM IN THIS COMPAIGN I watched with dismay as two ministers in Kibaki's government squared right in Kibaki's presence. Minister Munyao declared that he will be a mere member of parliament after 27th of december after some unknown persons in the high hirachy of his party refused to pick up his phone. PNU is in disarray with some talking of voting three piece while others are talking about individuality of each party. KANU has become a party owned by one Uhuru Kenyatta who has become a simple registration holder of the party while the bedrock of Kanu is asking for sitting/listening allowance before they even attend the achitect of politics(Moi's) meeting. Safina is fighting it out with DP in central while TIP is breathing on the neck of sirikisho. At best PNU is a mess. One does not need a first class economics degree to see this. How come Kibaki, a person who professor Mazrui believed could have been the first east african economics professor and a person with more intellect than Raila Odinga be so naive to still believe that he is winning this election? Where is Kibaki's confidence comming from? I would be stupid to think that Kibaki is not seeing what I am seeing. But if he is not then there is something terribly wrong with this first class honours economics degree holder. May be age is catching up with the man and neurodegeneration is catching up with him. As we know intellect in ones youth may become eroded with time due to sicknesses or due to blind worship by a few sycophants blocking the front view. Sitting in limos and the benzes may sometimes blindfold even the geniuses of our time. I would hope that this is what Emilio is going through. He is sleeping on a bed of Roses that of which the nation is pulling the beddings from under him one by one. How long will Kibaki be in this sleep. I cannot answer this question untill the day I see a new president sworn in. But the other side of the coin is that Kibaki is not sleeping at all and his intellect is still intact. This leaves a complicated scenario in which Kibaki has either chosen to willingly loose the election because he is nolonger interested in power or he has something up his sleeves. It sure looks like Kibaki knows he has lost. The enthusiasm is gone, the big words have dissappeared and the his policies has been left to kazi iendelee slogan without mentioning which Kazi he is talking about. May be Kibaki meant every word of the MOU he signed during the 2002 election. May be Kibaki meant every word when he said that he was going for presidency only for one term. It is truely beginning to appear as if Kibaki is being forced to go to the compaigns and do not really care about the outcome. The reason for this is that Kibaki has failed to utilize his good associates in compaigns instead has stuck with the Michuki's, Karume's and Nyachaes who many nolonger care for. His good generals are all wrangling. He has not also been articualting his policy appropriately. Can some one win with "KAZI IENDELEE" slogan only. Who among Kibaki associates will carry there areas for Kibaki except for those from central province. Is it Awori, Mungatana, Makwere, Mukisa or Kombo. If Kombo carries it for him then what becomes of Mukisa or Awori. This is not something that Kibaki is not seeing because it is happening in daylight and in real time. Amilio must have given up. Unfortunately the blind Kombo's, Awori, Makwere, Tuju and the rest are not seeing through Kibaki's intellect and are already sacrifing their future while Kibaki has gone beyond his. The old man is tired of the game of politics and is ready to go home. It is time for Kombo, Mukisa and Awori especially to fight for their seats by alienating themselves from Kibaki because they will not see the hope of vice presidency or parlierment this time. It is time they avoid sacrificing their future for a person who has seen his destiny. The other option is that Kibaki has vote rigging machinery in place and it does not matter what the polls say or how many people vote for the opposition, he has a plan to win rain or sunshine. The other is that Kibaki is preparing for a situation where his opponents will not even be there after the election and lastly may be the old man just want to hand over power to the military. If Kibaki is an intelectual that Mazrui talked about then one of these last options must be on the table. For I believe the interlectual many beleieve he is can nolonger conceive winning this election. If Kibaki wins fairly in this election, then Kenyans must be the type of people I will never predict. With the current situation on the ground, you must be hallucinating to believe that Kibaki is still in this race. Barack Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
