Re: RIOTS IN KISUMU Date: Sun, 30 Dec 2007 06:49:12 -0800 (PST) From: otieno noah In Kisumu on the 29th December, people were looting anything and everything, from motor bikes, tuk tuk, hardware, mattresses, trolley loads of goods, literally anything. I was informed that the police chose to take no notice and went as far as encouraging them to loot SO LONG AS THEY DO NOT BURN UP the business premises. I have ever since witnessed that an entire multi billion business premise WEDCO COMPLEX (and other buildings) along with billions worth of all sorts equipment – medical, hardware, an entire supermarket went up into flames and the aftermath looks incredibly horrible. Kisumu just has NO face at all. Why did security men JUST WATCH, AND EVEN (REPORTEDLY) PARTICIPATE in the looting? Was that another dimension of security vigilance? This never happened in other towns like Kericho, Eldoret, Kakamega, Mombasa and Nairobi. Ask the commissioner of police to answer this question. Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
