BBC SWAHILI SERVICE REPORT BBC Swahili service interviews and report on our presidential elections are now on (Dec 25, 07,10:43 am US Central Time Zone). Congolese, Tanzanians, Ugandans have already been interviewed and they are of the view that Raila is going to win, except that they worry that Kibaki might use money and muscle to rig the election. Museveni has just been interviewed and he seems so disinterested with the possibility of Raila winning. The self proclaimed president of East Africa is not amused by Raila popularity because, like a disease, it might infect someone in Uganda. Many of the interviewed East Africans sound interested with our process and outcome because they will help point the way forward for their countries. ODM success in Kenya will no doubt have some effects in Uganda and beyond, hence the current interest Ugandans have in our process. I am surprised that East and Central Africans are interested in our politics and are so informed about issues at play in campaign. Many interviewees blame Kibaki's government for ethnocentric economic practices and corruption that have come to be known as Kibakinomics. A win for ODM to most of the interviewees is a win for democracy for Africa. J.K. LELEITTO SANG MINNESOTA, USA Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
