Fri, 25 Jan 2008 14:22:20 -0800 (PST) How fair is the advice "Give up?" There are certain advice that under normal circumstances we are not supposed to give others. Such is the advise "give up!" Why so? 1. Can you imagine of a parent advising his or her child to give up because school is tough? 2. What about a minister advising his or her members to divorce because marriage is tough. Like some of you, life has been extremely challenging to me over the years. Many were the days that I was tempted to give up. But every time I was tempted to think that way, I was reminded of the following: 1. When on earth, Jesus was tempted many times to give up. During the mount of transfiguration, when He felt alone and rejected, He almost gave up.What if He had given up facing the cross? Remember at one time Peter tried to discourage Him. But He stood firm for that which He believed was the right thing to do. 2. The reformers were tempted to give up, but they were inspired to stay on course until they got rid of the darkness that had crept into the church. What about our time? 1. If the founding fathers had given up, Kenya would not be free today. 2. Many men and women have risked all to save their countries from that which they were convinced was wrong. 3. Think about former president Nelson Mandela. He went through torture, isolation, and many years in prison. At the end,he was able to bring freedom to his people. So, instead of advising others to give up,let us encourage them to go an extra mile in doing that which they feel will be for the benefit of those who are not courageous enough to stand for themselves. The only thing that we may need to remind them, is to play by the rules! Don't you agree with me? Just a thought. My heart and prayers are with all Kenyans.
