Forwarded thru Jaluo Press Kisumu's Kibuye market goes up in flames Written By:Christine Oduogi , Posted: Sun, Jan 06, 2008 Property worth millions of shillings was destroyed at the famous Kibuye market in Kisumu town following a fierce fire. Over 100 stalls were razed to the ground in an incident residents described as a revenge by a certain businessman who lost property to looters during last weeks post election violence. Police watched helplessly as the stalls went up in flames. The fire reduced to ashes furniture, clothing and cereals further aggravating the food shortage that has hit the town. Many town residents condemned the burning of the market saying calm was returning to the town and continued acts of arson will destabilize efforts to bring peace, security and solve the transport crisis.
