MURDER MOST FOUL Date: Sat, 19 Jan 2008 11:05:47 +0000 (GMT) It is a sad period in the Kenyan history as we see democracy, hard fought for, being murdered at the behest of a few selfish people in this country. Some people will stop at nothing to see their ambitions upheld. If one group of people, and by extension, community can 'steal' votes just to perpetuate fiefdom, then when will we ever see 'state-manhood' in Kenya! I witnessed the wanton destruction of property by very frustrated persons in Kisumu and Eldoret while in Kenya and felt very sorry. I was and still feel appalled that the so called 'leaders' hype about dialogue when one party goes ahead to appoint and swear in a cabinet! Is there real room for dialogue when the government goes ahead to do such provocative things? Which justice system do they want the ODM to go to when history holds it that Kenya has never had any independent judiciary system. We know that in the 9th parliament, some election related appeals and challenges were decided at the 11th hour! Do they expect the ODM to go to a PNU-sympathetic court and get justice! They go ahead and ban all rallies in the guise of security consciousness while we know that they and their police forces are the ones murdering people at the express authority of the Internal Security operatives. If that is not enough, they go ahead and ban live broadcast of national events, thereby frustrating both media houses and their audiences. The worst part is that the public remains frustrated and as a Psychologist, i will say that when a person becomes frustrated he turns to any way to vent the frustration. I thought we have a well informed government with professional advisers back in Kenya. Historical wrongs need to be dealt with now and the more they sweep them under the carpet the more tension that is unnecessarily allowed to build. The religious leaders have not done any justice at all to our country. Even before the elections, the Cardinal had taken sides and urged the Catholics and all Kenyan to vote against ODM. Is this really a leader who can preach peace now and be taken seriously! You answer that. Where were they when the tally process was being questioned at KICC prior to the announcement? Why do they come in now and pretend to be cooling tension? What agenda did they have? Can they truly justify their 'call to peace'? Why don't they want to call for justice and truth but are so fast at asking for dialogue? Is that what Jesus would have asked for? I laud the Muslims for calling a spade a spade and not a big spoon? Our religious leaders have let us down at the time of need and they can no longer be treated with respect that they do not deserve. Can they borrow a leaf from the Philippines during the time of Marcos? If they have proved to be so partisan, they would do the country good by forever remaining silent as their 'wolves in sheep's clothing' stand is dividing the country further. Lastly, it is futile to bring in dialogue now if we do not boldly face the genesis of the impasse. Evidence has been forwarded by various observer groups and interest groups and the 'hawks' in the government need to be careful how they treat the current situation. Face the truth and stop doctoring and adducing fake evidence in support of their injustice and 'robbery' of the peace-loving majority in Kenya. I mourn for my country and the current 'thievery' in Kenya. M. Ariki Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
