Need For Re-Run Of Presidential Election in Kenya Mon, 7 Jan 2008 15:32:46 +1300 Five years ago the NARC wave swept Kibaki into State House as the New President of the Republic of Kenya. The history of that victory is totally out in public domain. Indeed Kibaki's first government was that of coalition of NARC parties. Since then a lot has come to light including the fact that Kibaki and his handlers were, from day one, very focused and intent on TAMING RAILA. Everything else was but a sideshow for them. No wonder soon they kicked LDP out of that government into the opposition benches. Kibaki quickly cobbled together a GNU to help him fight against the BOMAS draft but the Banana outfit was beaten, hands down, fair and square. Despite this, Kibaki and his handlers maneuvered and the promise of a new constitution within 100 days of his presidency was scuttled. That was the fate of most of his promises. Enter 2007 and ODM has grown stronger. Curiously a splinter group, ODM-K, is formed. Leader of official opposition party, KANU, abdicates his state responsibilities and with his Kanu splinter group supported by ex- president Moi start campaigning for Kibaki's re-election so that "Kazi Iendelee ". Government of Nation Unity was baptized PNU which brought together a host of masters of graft. This time round the plan was to steal people's victory in Grand style Electoral fraud as just witnessed. Goldenberg, Anglo Leasing and other cases of corruption pale in comparison to the extent of fraud that has just been visited upon Kenyans by PNU through the now discredited ECK. This was brazen fraud in anticipation of impunity once again. Our brother Githongo must now be terribly sick with indignation just as we all are. Fast tract past the violence of last week. Kibaki now stands in amnesic holiness calling yet again for another GNU. By that call, he is asking Kenyans to abandon painful memories of the last five years and beyond. Does Kibaki seriously think that the violence of last week is something that he can just sweep under the carpet and Kazi Iendelee without any corrective measures? What will another GNU be pegged on to make it work? Will it be based on canning, subterfuge or mischief? Will it be based on disdainful recycling of rejected politicians back to positions of authority in disregard of Kenyans who, in their collective wisdom , voted them out? Or will it be pegged on self-righteousness or on bloated run away megalomaniac pride of bunch of political neophytes? Or will it be based on a subterranean agenda by the likes of Muchuki and others to simply bludgeon Mavi ya Kuku Mpaka Wata Poa? Could this call by Kibaki for another GNU turnout to be just a way of placing yet another layer of cotton wool over the eyes of Kenyans to let status quo pass for change? The past being a good predictor of the future I am persuaded beyond reasonable doubt that yet another GNU will be just a Bloody Political Stillbirth. Reasons for this include; a nightmarish constitution of Kenya, the presence of a consortium of commercial political parties, a presidium determined to steal from the people, an unethical political class willing and ready to supplicate at the president's table in total oblivion as to the state and mood of the nation. From such class the president finds it easy to pick goats and dress them in wolf skin at the promise of the VPs post. Such clamouring is going on now with personal gains superseding national interests and they cease to see vice for what it is. Such cosmetics will not fix Kenya's problems. Kenyans do not want leadership imposed through boardroom meetings. We voted for change but Kibaki stole victory from the people. He is now throwing the bait of GNU as a means to dismiss national loss and grief while giving PNU space to regroup then kill and plunder the ODM dream just as they did NARC. I need not be skilled in the PROPHETIC ARTS to see this call as a farce it is destined to be. My suggestion is a re-run of presidential election as a way forward. The sooner the better. The re-run of presidential election should be supervised by an independent, impartial international team of election experts. For them to discharge their responsibility at a level that will meet international standard the international team of election experts should be provided with an adequate team of international peace keeping force to ensure security. Then in free and fair elections let DIVINITY GRANT THE BEST MAN VICTORY AND PEACE TO KENYA. Copyright 2008 Mbeke Jamiranga Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
