must solve this problem themselves
The idea of peace and unity in Kenya is a chimera and its elusiveness cannot be over-emphasized. Chaste system in Kenya can now be likened to what existed in the days of King Louis XVI just before the French revolution of 1789. There is a growing autocracy by a clique of bourgeoisie. The only issue that escapes Kenyans is that this clique is not only Kikuyu! It is a clique that can loosely be called Kenyan power brokers. They come from all the tribes. Only now, the Kikuyu part of it is seeking to be the controller. It is therefore very unfortunate that Annan takes two people into a boardroom and addresses them as if they are the ones who voted. The situation in Kenya needs a referendum! Everything that Annan comes up with should be put to a referendum and passed by Kenyans as soon as possible. Before the referendum, a caretaker constitution which allows only the technocrats to continue running the government and the politicians to wait for the referendum should be put in place. After all, what is all this rubbish called constitution? Is it not the creation of man? Why do some people think they cannot be altered in the short term for the benefit of the people? What is at stake here is loss of human capital. It costs many years and millions of Kenya shillings to raise one person many of whom are now dead because of selfishness of some few sadists. After having seen the media around the world, the issue in Kenya is just one of the world issues and if Kenyans are looking to a solution from elsewhere, they will wait ad infinitum. Now it is becoming a trend in Africa. After Zimbabwe, it is now Kenya. Soon it will be Uganda and the list, I am afraid, might continue. - Sillah Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
