ADDING MORE FUEL Date: Mon, 14 Jan 2008 12:29:07 +0300 From: Tarangire With this kind of utterance and chest thumping where are we heading? Do we need peace really? A real tragedy! JUST IMAGINE THE KIND OF LEADERS WE HAVE??? -------------------- POLITICS Take polls row to court - Michuki Story by WAIKWA MAINA and STEPHEN MBURU Publication Date: 1/14/2008 [[Roads and Public Works minister John Michuki. Photo/ FILE]] The stalemate arising from the disputed presidential election can only be addressed in a court of law, Roads and Public Works minister John Michuki said Sunday. The minister ruled out any mediation efforts between the Government side and ODM and threatened that the Government may cut diplomatic relations with countries fighting President Kibaki. Not been defeated “We are just turning a blind eye, but we can one day wake up and tell them to leave the country. The Government has not been defeated to maintain order in the country and we do not need any foreigners to tell us what to do,” the minister said. On negotiations with the ODM, Mr Michuki said election laws are very clear and any aggrieved party should file a case in a court of law. “The Government is in control and has not invited anyone to mediate because there is nothing to mediate about. Kenyans made their decision and ECK played its constitutional role and announced the results,” Mr Michuki said. ECK chairman Samuel Kivuitu is on the record saying he does not know if President Kibaki won the December 27 polls. Mr Michuki was speaking at Gakira Catholic Church in his Kangema constituency where he denied claims by ODM that the Government was using the outlawed Mungiki sect to cause chaos. He said it may take time to repair roads in Nyanza where Ministry of Works machines were torched during the political skirmishes. Kenyans’ decisions He told Britain that it must admit the fact that Kenya is no longer under the white man, saying they must respect Kenyans’ decisions. Elsewhere, three MPs-elect from Central Kenya have urged ODM to call off its planned demonstrations and pave the way for smooth reopening of schools Sunday. Mr Ephraim Maina (Mathira), Mr David Njuguna (Lari) and Mr Cyrus Muriuki (North Imenti) said such a gesture would demonstrate the party’s commitment to peaceful negotiations. The MPs, who addressed the Press at a Nairobi hotel on Saturday, called for urgent dialogue between the President and Mr Odinga for the sake of peace in the country.
