KENYA INJUSTICE BASED ON POOR INSTITUTIONS
Kofi Annan is tomorrow tackling the most important agenda with the Kenyan selected dream team and he need to base his discussion on the listed down injustices. The historical untruths and injustices based on undemocratic institutions, ignorance and poor distribution of resources which have led us this far. Many have been asking: How come people, who have dwelled together for years, coexisted without tensions, have been godly neighbors, can easily be swayed and carried away by political insecurity that was triggered by ECK's announcement of results? The reason is simple. We have existed without knowing our national truths and candors. We have relied on lies and half lies and ignored questions like: what makes us live together? What brought us together? What are the fundamental issues in life? Why are we poor yet we toil and moil on a daily basis? And what are we all struggling for as a people? The answers to these are not known nor rooted on principles, values and institutions. We just exist and let certain individuals, communities, mostly politicians, carry our burdens! The lack of these truths has been coupled with frustrations and non fulfillment of human needs and wants. Based on our system of education, people have aspired for jobs after acquiring university degrees; their children have lacked proper education and healthcare services; they live in poor infrastructures; have been fed with arcane myths and stereotypes; have poor socialization and ethnicisation of everything else. Over the years, all these have bred: anger, hatred, fear, us versus them, enmity, entrenched tribalism, displacement, evictions, killings, joblessness and our time to eat culture. For us to heal and reconcile as a nation, there must be mechanisms for the people, to know their national truths, the originality of their socio-economic and political problems, how we become Kenyans and the origins of hatred, tribalism, poverty, inequalities and the anger we harbor for each other. In short, we need new ways to re-socialize and re-civilize as a nation for we have committed many wrongs unto each other since 1963. This should be followed by reconstruction of the state through a new constitution which will give equal distribution of wealth and resources and empower institutions. - JK Joluo.com Akelo nyar Kager, jaluo@jaluo.com |
