Fri, 1 Feb 2008 12:17:52 EST RE: DEMAND UN PEACEKEEPERS IN KENYA NOW I do understand our suffering and predicament under a largely publicly disengaged Leader (properly elected or not), but I beg to differ with Jaluopress. A UN peace-keeping force would be necessary if the Kenyan Army were polarized and engaged in the current crisis. So far the kenyan Army is not part of the conflict. There still are other options the international community can exploit to make life a little more difficult for the Kibaki leadership. J.R. Alila ------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello J.R., This is an idea that Kofi Annan has suggested as well. We are asking for UN or NATO peacekeepers specifically because the Kenyan government has failed to protect all of the citizenry. What protection has been given to Kenyans has tended to favor some groups more than others. The police have shown, beyond a doubt, that they cannot be trusted with ensuring the safety of all Kenyans. Should Kibaki deploy the military to other parts of Kenya (and not just Nakuru), then we will have to assess whether they are as impartial as you and Mr. Kagame believe they will be. Nonetheless, we reiterate that we are against any military coup or takeover of the governance of Kenya and we believe that all Kenyans should resist any efforts toward these ends.
