RE: HAVE WE LOST IT COMRADES?

Dear J Ouma,

We honestly cannot decide whether this is clever propaganda or your honest opinion. It smacks of propaganda in that you are the first supposed sympathizer to make this kind of "Kibaki will be the head honcho for five years and then we will try again but for now let's just sit on the sidelines" case...at this site anyway.

Actually, depending on which side of the issue you stand, there is cause for hope. Even the US is toning down its power-sharing agenda. They now see it as a short-term solution.

And the reason for this change in the Washington consensus cannot even be credited to ODM! Kibaki has himself to thank for this.

Kibaki has done everything to frustrate negotiations, including, it would seem, bug the head negotiator's room! As Xan Rice's recent article indicated, many, including many Kikuyus, are losing patience with "general coward." They are realizing that it is becoming beyond difficult to keep making Kibaki look like the "good guy" when he is anything but.

Kibaki, no matter how much western politicians and western media call him "President" is NOT the President of Kenya. He has not been recognized as such by the majority of Kenyans. The truth of the matter is that there is no government in Kenya. Even Britain recognizes this. Now, since there is no government in Kenya, issues of sovereignty do not apply. (Therefore, arguments against deploying peacekeepers due to the "sovereignty of the Kenyan state" do not apply.)

So what is Kibaki? Kibaki is Kenya's "general coward." He is a tyrant hell-bent on becoming the third dictator of Kenya. Nothing more. Perhaps less.

Will he succeed? We think not.

Recent reports from Washington indicate that power-sharing would last, at most, two years, during which a transition government would rule Kenya. We have yet to see the final plans but we believe that all signs point to a new election in the not-too-distant (two years or less) future.

Still, yes, there is a lot of reasons for Kenyans to be suspicious of the US and the UK. We are hoping that the EU will again step up to the plate and demand that justice be served. In any event, we are quite certain that, should the international community fail to do so, the Kenyan people will continue to demand justice. Annan is right on that count; this IS about the will of the majority of Kenyans. The last time we checked, majority rule was the overriding definition of democracy.

P.S. J Ouma, while we have no problem with you addressing anyone as "comrade" or identifying yourself as such, we fully realize that small words can be very suggestive, particularly to small-minded people. A word to such small-minded people: Jaluo.com is not a communist site. The communist label has been used throughout history to undermine progressive agendas and to discredit progressive individuals. Readers, be alert. In addition to the literal war that our county seems headed for, there is a war of semantics that is constantly being played out in the media.
